Our bedroom at home is a haven for us. A place where we can be ourselves and practically do anything we want. Imagine taking that to the next level and having an entire condo unit to yourself. Yes, we’re talking about living on your own, and it should be part of New Year’s resolution.

Why? Because living on your own for the first time can be both exciting and scary. This will mark the first time wherein you can truly live your own life the way you want to without your parents or other people telling you what to do. It will also be the first time you’ll have to take care of things all by yourself, such as paying the bills, cooking your food, cleaning the entire flat, and doing the laundry.

If you already have the means to move out, make sure to have to check out condos for rent in Taguig where you can finally start living on your own. But if you aren’t convinced that the time is now, then you better take a look at these reasons why living on your own is a risk worth taking this 2020.

1. Your home, your rules

Finally, you can sing your heart out, design your space however you want, eat whenever you want, and have friends over no matter the time of the day. Since you’re living by yourself, you no longer have to answer to anyone or their rules. It’s your condo, your rules; you’re living on your terms.

2. The TV is all yours

When you live with someone, it can’t be helped that you would have to share the television with them. And, sadly, there will be times when you wouldn’t like what they’re watching. When you’re on your own, you don’t have to share your TV with anyone and you can binge-watch all you want without thinking of someone else.

3. The bathroom is your safe place

Everything from the soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and toilet:  all yours. No need to remind other people to lift or wipe the toilet seat or scold them for not turning the exhaust fan on or for not lighting up the scented candles if you live by yourself.

4. Decorate according to your taste

With nobody but yourself to keep in mind, you can finally unleash the interior designer in you and decorate your condo unit according to your taste. In case you aren’t artistically inclined, you can hire an interior designer to help you turn your ideas into reality.

5. No need to compromise

When you’re alone in your own house, you don’t have to compromise. No need to be mindful of your music, sharing the bills, and even how you move in your home—everything is your call.

6. You can walk naked (if that’s your thing)

Since you live in a condo, there’s a small chance of people seeing into your unit. That’s why some tenants like to walk naked in their flat, especially when they’re alone. Don’t be judgemental. The reason for some isn’t sexually driven. There are actual health benefits in doing so - both physically and mentally.

According to the plastic surgeon and skincare expert Dr. Michael Fiorillo, going naked is great for the skin because it helps the elimination of sweat toxins that clothing can reintroduce. It also helps with the blood circulation of the body.

7 .You learn to take care of yourself

One of the challenges of living on your own is taking care of yourself. Trivial as it may sound, you will have to learn to eat and sleep right, as well as exercise. And since your mom isn’t there, you’ll have to learn how to treat yourself from a minor illness like flu or fever alone or when to call in the ambulance/doctors.

8. Ultimate privacy

Are you tired of your family digging through your stuff? Living life on your terms means nobody can tell you what to do and, more importantly, nobody will be snooping around.

9. You learn to budget

When you move to a new city, living on your own can be costly. The expenses for living on your own will include but are not limited to the following items: food, water, bills, commute, monthly amortization, and association fees. The expenses when living on your own is entirely on how much resources you use.

Unlike the time when you were living with your parents, and they would tell you to unplug everything to save electricity and money. The costs for living on your own aren’t pretty, but it sure will teach you to budget your income.

10. Everything in the fridge is yours

Ever opened the refrigerator and see something you like to eat or drink only to find out that you can’t because it isn’t yours? Now that you are on your own, you’d be able to consume anything you want inside your fridge. After all, you own the place. You can even choose to drink out of the carton (not that we’re saying that it’s okay).

11. You learn to cook

A clear sign you’re ready to live on your own is your cooking skill. Learning how to cook is a necessity when getting your place. Sure, it will take some time to prepare a meal, but as the saying goes, “nothing beats a home-cooked meal.”

12. Clean when you want

When you live alone, nobody will keep on bugging you to clean your room, wash the dishes, and sweep the floor. While it’s still important to make sure things are tidy, the stress of someone constantly telling you what to do is out. And if you don’t feel like cleaning, one aspect of living independently is that you can always hire someone to do the cleaning for you.

13. You become more responsible

You’ll have to learn to be more responsible financially, physically, and mentally. You’ll have to take the time to grow your finances, deal with all the payments, take care of your health, and learn to socialize or detox from a busy week at work.

14. You discover more about yourself

Because you have more time for yourself, you can discover more about yourself. You’ll slowly learn what things you like/dislike, the people you want to hang out with, and more.

Indeed, living on your own is an exciting milestone. It’s the official start of being an adult. Hopefully, these reasons are enough to convince you to move out when 2020 comes. New year, new you, after all.
